27th September

The annual football luncheons are the most anticipated events on the Taylors sporting and social calendars as it gives a chance for directors and clients alike to enjoy a well-deserved afternoon away from the regular working environment and in the midst of the great playing ground, the MCG.

This years UDIA and PCA Footy Lunches were well attended by Taylors delegates and esteemed clients, some of whom had not experienced this opportunity before, but were grateful for the fun day out. As Taylors General Manager of Business Development – and devoted St Kilda supporter –, Sarkis Yelandjian explains, “It’s a good social day where everyone is in a great mood”.

“It was an excellent opportunity to build on relationships away from the day-to-day project ‘rock face’.

The UDIA Footy Luncheon was the first occasion on the calendar this year with …

Focus On: Design Guidelines | The Foundation of Good Design

Posted by Kathryn Kutchel in Business units, Design Guidelines, Melbourne, Our people, Planning. Comments Off on Focus On: Design Guidelines | The Foundation of Good Design

20th September

The key to good design, comes from having good foundations and guidelines to follow. Whether it be the design of public spaces, the layout of cities, or the building design of a local neighbourhood, having design guidelines in place ensures safe, liveable spaces. Some of these guidelines stem from common sense, while others are developed from collections of study, but all of these intend to implement a principle without restricting creativity in design.

At Taylors, the Design Guidelines team is autonomous, working behind the spotlight to ensure quality delivery of multiple projects, but they are a crucial complement to multiple teams, as Design Guidelines Manager, Melanie Memery explains.

“I’ve been in the building industry for twelve years, and I came to Taylors five and a half years ago.”

Where does Design Guidelines sit among the Taylors team and what does the …

Speak Up about Mental Health in the Workplace

Posted by Kathryn Kutchel in Christchurch, In the Media, Melbourne, Our people, People, Culture & Brand. Comments Off on Speak Up about Mental Health in the Workplace

14th September

Are you okay?
It’s a simple question, often raised flippantly in water cooler conversation. It can also be said in ways like, ‘how’s it going?’ ‘how are you?’ ‘what’s happening?’, but all variations are often met with the response, ‘good’, ‘fine’, ‘alright’. How often do we ask, are you okay, and really listen to the answer? You may say you listen every time, but is it only on days like R U OK Day that you stop and focus? At Taylors, mental health in the workplace is as vital as physical health, and we’re working toward raising awareness around the issue that needs to be addressed.

R U OK? The question is reminder, not a placeholder.

In light of R U OK Day this year, the Taylors office took the opportunity to officially recognise the initiative and progress toward implementing a …

Taylors are regular providers of work experience opportunities for young, developing minds to expand their educational horizons and to let keen students learn more about their potential career path. Taylors most recent work experience student, Elana, was initially concerned that her broad educational interests might prevent her from knowing which career to follow, but during her time at Taylors, the experience encouraged her to think differently and discover new skills.

Work experience student, Elana, was all smiles following her time at Taylors

Initially placed into the People, Culture and Brand, and Health and Safety teams, Elana was keen to step out and begin immersing herself in the opportunities available to her. “It was good, we went out and I got to see how it all works outside of the office. 24th July

Taylors involvement with international community initiatives and our partnership with the Fiji Housing Authority has provided Noa with the opportunity to gain knowledge from Victorian surveying firms and help him grow and understand another country’s techniques. Noa, originally from Fiji, is now enthusiastically completing work placement in our Melbourne office.

Noa and his teammates from the Survey and Subdivision Team

“Taylors was recommended by my superiors in Fiji who had worked with them before on a Fijian project.” Said Noa. “The recommendation came around the time when I had been researching survey firms around the Melbourne area, and I became motivated to approach the company as it suited the areas that I want to be exposed to.” As an experienced surveyor for the Fiji government, Noa has come on board with our Urban Development Survey and Subdivision team at Taylors …
