Brittan Terrace Villa | Lyttleton, NZ
The Christchurch based Taylors Architecture team were engaged to assess and then redevelop this heritage character villa located in Lyttleton, a port village on the southern side of the Christchurch Port Hills.
Seated on a hill with a picturesque view overlooking the port and harbour, the villa was damaged as part of the 2010 / 2011 Canterbury Earthquakes. After consultation with the homeowners to establish the brief, the intention was to maintain as much of the Heritage character of the villa in the new design, while also providing a home designed with modern comforts and to current building standards.
The existing windows, mantle, and doors were saved, refurbished and reused to ensure the house captured the character of the original dwelling. We ensured that the architectural detail both external and internal kept with the heritage character of the original dwelling.
It is a great sense of accomplishment to see the excitement, appreciation, and pride of the owners for an exceptional built outcome that can continue to be in their family for future generations.
